Coffee was already part of the day
We were buying coffee whether we thought much about it or not. It was a familiar expense, a daily ritual, and something we genuinely cared about.
About Overstory
Coffee is already part of our everyday lives. Overstory began with a simple idea: if we are going to buy it anyway, why not choose coffee that helps keep forests standing and gives birds a place to thrive?

Why we started
We all spend money on the things we need and the things we enjoy. We wanted more of those everyday purchases to support the kind of world we care about—one with living forests, thriving wildlife, and better ways of growing coffee.
We were buying coffee whether we thought much about it or not. It was a familiar expense, a daily ritual, and something we genuinely cared about.
We try to put our money toward the things we want more of in the world. That made us ask a simple question: if coffee is something we are going to buy anyway, why not choose coffee that reflects what we care about?
Smithsonian Bird Friendly certification connected our cup to something real: organic farms that grow coffee beneath a diverse shade canopy, helping keep forest habitat in place for birds and other wildlife.
Why Overstory
One bag of coffee will not change a landscape on its own. But a daily habit, shared by many people over time, can create steady demand for farms that grow coffee while protecting forest habitat.
Overstory exists to make that choice easy: excellent coffee with credible standards behind it, so more of the money we already spend on coffee can support birds, forests, and a healthier environment.
Not every meaningful choice has to be a grand gesture. Coffee gives us a chance to put our values into an ordinary part of the day.
Choosing Bird Friendly coffee supports demand for farms that protect canopy, biodiversity, and the habitat birds depend on.
Smithsonian Bird Friendly certification gives the promise substance through rigorous organic, shade, and habitat standards.
